The politics in South Carolina have always been conservative. Now that the conservatives are in the political minority position, it is also becoming more heated in its rhetoric against the Democratic majority and their proposed policies.
The official poverty formula developed in 1955 both under and over estimates the poverty rate in the US. The current formula is highly centered around food costs.
There are a lot of voices discussing what should be done about health care in this country. One voice says the system is fine as it is. Another says some minor changes are needed and the third says that major changes are needed. I agree with the latter.

With the Republican Party becoming less diverse and narrowly focused, is it possible for the Democrats to even find common ground anymore? Does Lincoln's prophecy for the GOP still hold on how common ground will be obtained?
Both temperature wise and politics wise it's been a hot summer so maybe it's time to sit in the air conditioned comfort of our homes and reflect a bit on some things that Independents, Republicans and Democrats can agree on. Wow, I've cooled down already.
